... the author's marriage too was documented for tv. The great day was March 15th 2002, on the isle of Vlieland. As it happened, the ceremony was led by John Deen, as the official of Vlieland municipality. Because marrying couples was only one of Deen's many occupations on the island -he was also the small community's only doctor, vet, dentist, psychologist, social worker and so on- broadcast company Omrop Fryslan was documenting his busy life and did not want to skip the first international marriage ceremony on the island...
Funny thing how some years time later, Deen's life became the story behind a popular Dutch tv-series. In fact so popular that John Deen stated in a 2017 interview: 'My wife and I we flee from the island during summer, because fans of the series are walking around our place.'
